Privacy Policy

What we collect
- Ratings & battle votes: we store the rating/vote value, a timestamp, and a one-way cryptographic hash derived from your IP address and browser user-agent string (combined with a site-wide salt). We use this hash only to prevent duplicate voting and abuse — we cannot reverse it back into your IP address.
- Session cookie: a first-party session cookie is used for basic site functionality (like CSRF protection on forms). It contains no personal information.
- Saved recipes: if you use "Save Recipe," the list of saved recipe slugs is stored only in your browser's local storage — it never reaches our server.
- Server logs & basic analytics: like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting. We also record aggregate pageview analytics — page path, referrer, a one-way hash of your IP address, and an approximate country/region derived from IP address — to understand traffic and detect abuse. This is first-party analytics we operate ourselves, not a third-party tracker.
- Contact form tickets: if you use the contact form, we store the name, email address, and message you submit so we can reply, plus a one-way hash of your IP address for spam prevention. You'll get a private, unguessable ticket link by email to view replies — we never publish contact details publicly.
Advertising
Ruffles.net may show Google AdSense advertising and/or sponsored placements from our own small site network. When active, Google and other advertising partners may use cookies or similar technology to serve and measure ads; this is governed by Google's own privacy policy, and you can review or adjust ad personalization at myadcenter.google.com. We do not sell your personal data, and advertising is never a prerequisite for using any part of the site.
What we don't do
We don't sell personal data, and we don't require account creation to use the site.
