Sources & Data Verification

Ruffles.net does not have a private data feed or API relationship with PepsiCo or Frito-Lay. Every fact on this site is gathered from public, verifiable sources, and each imported record keeps an internal citation trail.

Current products

Current-product information is verified against the official Ruffles product catalog at ruffles.com, cross-checked against the site's public XML sitemap and, where available, PepsiCo's public SmartLabel and Product Facts ingredient portals. 11 current products in our database link directly to an official source page.

Historical & discontinued products

Historical entries are researched from, in priority order: official PepsiCo/Frito-Lay press releases, contemporaneous news coverage, archived official pages (via the Wayback Machine where legitimately accessible), retailer/UPC product databases, and reputable snack-enthusiast archives. We only add a historical flavor when at least one credible, citable source confirms it existed — usually more than one. Exact release or discontinuation dates are only shown when a source actually states them; otherwise we say "previously available" rather than inventing a year.

Recipes

Factual recipe details — ingredient lists, quantities, prep/cook times, servings, and which Ruffles product is used — are verified against the official recipe pages at ruffles.com/recipes. Narrative descriptions and step-by-step instructions on Ruffles.net are written in our own words based on those factual details rather than copied from the source. A small number of dip recipes are original Ruffles.net creations and are clearly labeled as such.

A note on imagery and automated access

Ruffles.com uses network-level bot protection that currently blocks automated requests from our server's hosting IP range, including plain requests to its robots.txt file. Our weekly synchronization job still attempts a direct, rate-limited, properly identified fetch on schedule and logs the outcome — if it's blocked, no data is overwritten and the failure is recorded for admin review rather than silently failing. Initial product, recipe and historical research for this launch was gathered through manual, tool-assisted browsing rather than server-side scraping. Where an official product image could not be legitimately cached, we reference the official image URL directly instead of fabricating or substituting a stock photo.
